Hawk in the Nest is the full band project of singer-songwriter Avi Jacob.  Avi blends elements of folk, Americana, and R&B.

Born into a Jewish family in Boston, Massachusetts, Avi is the son of historian Robert Michael, a noted Historian of the Holocaust. Avi first started performing original folk concerts at age 14 & immersed himself in the city's vibrant DIY music scene. He became involved with The Whitehaus Family Record, releasing several early recordings as he honed his craft as a songwriter and performer.​


In 2010, Avi relocated to Charleston, South Carolina, to pursue a professional music career. He began playing small festivals, gaining recognition through music blogs and compilation releases. He later co-wrote "All the Liars," performed by Diana DeMuth and released in 2020.​


Avi independently released the song "Cannonball" on social media in 2014. The following year, in December 2015, Counting Crows invited him to CMJ, labeling him “an emerging folk superstar” That same year, A&R Report featured him as an artist to watch.​



His EP "Surrender" was produced by Simone Felice, known for his work on The Lumineers' Billboard #1 album "Cleopatra," and included contributions from members of The Felice Brothers. In May 2020, Avi released his album "Preservation" via Bandcamp.​ Avi won a 2022 New England Music Award.
